3D printed flexible wearables use body temperature to generate electricity

Researchers at the University of Washington in the United States recently published a paper in the journal Advanced Energy Materials that they have created the first flexible wearable thermoelectric device that converts body heat into electricity. The device has properties that are often difficult to combine: soft and stretchable, strong and efficient. The researchers say they can print the device on stretchable textile fabrics and curved surfaces, suggesting future devices could be applied to clothing and other objects. A unique aspect of this research is that it covers the entire spectrum from material synthesis to device fabrication and characterization, which gives researchers the freedom to design new materials and be creative.
