6.8 magnitude earthquake hits Sichuan

China Earthquake Networks determined that an earthquake of magnitude 6.8 occurred in Luding County, Ganzi Prefecture, Sichuan (29.59 degrees north latitude, 102.08 degrees east longitude) at 12:52 on September 5, with a focal depth of 16 kilometers. The quake was felt strongly in Chengdu, 300 kilometers away from the epicenter. Chengdu is currently under a quasi-closed city, with most of the residents at home, and videos posted on social networks show tableware shaking violently. The casualties in the earthquake-stricken area are currently unknown.
