Microsoft is acquiring Activision Blizzard, but the deal still needs approval from about 20 regulators around the world, including China, the United States, the European Union, Japan and the United Kingdom. Brazilian regulators launched a review of the deal on May 20 and asked third-party gaming companies for their views. Sony, Ubisoft, and Warner, among others, announced their responses . Sony may be the most affected by the deal, its PS console is the Xbox’s biggest rival. Sony believes that there are only a few AAA game developers left, besides Activision, there are EA, Ubisoft, Rockstar and Epic Game. But none of them can develop a game that competes with the Call of Duty franchise. Call of Duty is so famous that it can be listed as a game category on its own, and it’s so popular that it even influences players’ choice of consoles. The player base is so loyal that even competitors with enough budget to develop similar games cannot compete. Sony also mentioned Microsoft’s game subscription service, Game Pass, acknowledging that it won’t be able to challenge Game Pass’s status anytime soon.
