It will reportedly move some of its iPhone production to India starting with the iPhone 14. A new report says the manufacturer could produce 25% of iPhones in India by 2025. “The iPhone 14 mass production schedule in India this year is still about six weeks behind China, but the gap has improved significantly. Therefore, it is reasonable to expect that India and China will be able to produce the new iPhone 15 at the same time next year.”

According to analysts cited in the report, the company hopes to shift some iPhone production lines out of China due to geopolitical uncertainty and strict epidemic prevention policies, hoping to produce 25% of iPhones in India by 2025.

The report also said that Apple is expected to move about 5% of iPhone 14 production to India from the end of 2022. Analysts cited in the report also estimated that by 2025, Apple could bring about 25% of production of all products, including Macs, iPads, Watches and AirPods, outside China. Currently, only 5% of apple production comes from outside China.

“Taiwanese suppliers such as Hon Hai and Pegatron have played a key role in the relocation to India. In the medium to long term, we also expect Apple to qualify as a local manufacturing supplier in India,” the report quoted JPMorgan analysts as saying .

Apple began assembling iPhones in India in 2017. The company currently manufactures iPhones in India through its supplier Wistron and in India. With the government pushing for local manufacturing through programs such as the Production Linked Incentive (PLI), and ongoing geopolitical tensions in China, Apple is reportedly planning to move most of its iPhone production to India.
