Fans and critics are increasingly divided

Fans and critics usually rate the same film similarly, but this year is markedly different . The top 10 movies of the year so far (based on box office and viewing figures on the largest streaming platform Netflix) have a huge gap between the two sides, with only the box office winners “Top Gun: The Lone Ranger” and “The New Batman” The ratings are similar, and the other eight films – including “Jurassic World 3”, “Doctor Strange 2: The Multiverse of Madness”, “Minions 2”, “Thor 4: Love and Thunder” are all very different. Take, for example, the film of the same name based on Sony’s hit game “Uncharted,” which critics denounced as unattractive and hollow, with a combined score of 43, but a 77 from fans. Jurassic World 3 has a critic score of 34 and a fan score of 67, while Netflix’s “Grey Man” has a critic score of 47.5 and a fan score of 77.5. The ratings for these popular movies are all about 30 points apart. The ratings for the top 10 films differed by an average of 19 points, the highest this century.
