I saw that some people compare Zhihu and Douyin, and think that Douyin is “unfailing” because the recommendation algorithm is better. Not to mention that it is too early to talk about Douyin’s decline, which reminds me of the question I asked my friends before: Can Haiye Keiji become a mainstream musician by giving the most and the best promotion resources?

Zhihu’s main medium is text, while Douyin is purely an image medium. If you think that the algorithm is good enough and Zhihu can thrive, it basically means that the image does not necessarily defeat the text. I believe that most human beings can resist the temptation of the image and read the text obediently. The history of the media in the twentieth century and the history of the Internet over the past decade deny this.

Anyone who thinks that as long as promotions and algorithms keep up with anything can “fire” is usually because there is nothing outside the mainstream in her world. Here is an old Taiwanese lady who described this kind of people who are keen to discuss “how to find good content”: “This young man has never eaten, and still wants delicious food.”

Haiye has been in the arts for more than fifty years, longer than Apple has existed.
