In 2013, Apple was sued by retail store employees for searching bags to prevent theft. Nine years later, the class action was formally settled. U.S. District Judge William Alsap of the Northern District of California formally approved the settlement of the lawsuit on Monday. Under the agreement, Apple will have to pay $30.5 million (about 200 million yuan) in compensation to thousands of hourly workers in California. The class action, which covers 14,683 California employees and received an average of $1,328 per employee, is the largest ever reported security search settlement in California history, plaintiffs’ attorneys said.
